Accessories In Spring/Summer 2023 Tory Style

The Spring/Summer Season 2023 collection is driven by the opposite instinct: the freedom to try and cut everything. It falls entirely on the experimental side: an eclectic combination of accessories.

SOLAR POWER

Spring colors are inspired by the ’90s – a time when the only face filters available were your sunglasses. The slender oval DNA is reinterpreted as a futuristic wire frame and inlaid with mirrored satellite balls. Lightweight and understated, it’s a go-anywhere accessory.

HIP TO BE SQUARE

This season’s belt breaks up the streamlined silhouette with a slim fit and hip cut. Crafted in textured-leather with shiny hardware and a shimmering square charm. Consider her the best supporting actor in the Tory Spring/Summer 2023 collection.

CIRCULAR THINKING

Jewelry continues the geometric theme with circles that are both otherworldly and down-to-earth. Made of a mix of sequins and mirrored discs. The movable shoulder touch earrings are of heavenly quality, with silver hoops spiraling in orbital lines. Back on Earth, the abstract serpentine shapes carved into cuffs, rings and earrings are like body art on the skin.

The starting point for Spring/Summer 2023 was two seemingly opposing instincts: to pare everything back and to experiment freely. On the runway, these notions came together seamlessly. Clean lines and an ethereal palette provided the ideal backdrop for new ideas.

TO THE NINETIES

Tory moved to New York and began working in fashion in the 1990s. That seminal decade informed the collection’s streamlined shapes. But look closer and there’s a subtle richness within those stark lines:

                              • Texture
                              • Translucence
                              • Embellishment

BODY LANGUAGE

The past seasons’ focus on defining the waist continues. Weightless jersey bandeaus wrapped around long skirts and lean knee-cropped pants. Molded tunics are tailored with gentle curves. A foil to fluttering bias-cut lace, chiffon and lamé skirts.

BASIC ELEMENTS

A contrast of high and low is a brand signature. The collection’s more opulent elements were grounded by the simplicity of white T-shirts. And a pair of straight-cut blue jeans, styled into our favorite look.

To contrast the clean minimalist lines and ethereal palette of ready-to-wear, sharp shoes are essential.

FLATS FOREVER

The simplest silhouette. The maximum versatility and style. Spring’s many flats illustrate their chameleon-like ability to tap into different moods. Sleek architectural mules; sneakers so slim and thin they flirt with ballet slippers, and metallic slingbacks with charming, upturned toes.

ART WALK

Surrealist details add an artful element, tricking the eye to make you look twice. Cleverly applied to classic sling back heels and flat mules, these design devices — a shoe within a shoe, inverted heels, and pierced toe rings — still promise maximum comfort and wearability.

THAT’S SO METAL

Reflective metallic shoes offset ready-to-wear’s cool neutrals and washed pastels. The high shine of sleek silver sling backs played against translucent lilac separates and optic white knits. Toe rings and square-cut logos were the finishing touch on mules and slides.

The clean lines of the ready-to-wear are echoed in the season’s handbags, two brand-new styles that take inspiration from men’s carryalls. Their palette runs from classic neutrals to acid hues and metallics that add pop to the collection’s ethereal and icy colors.

OFFICE SEEKER

Our ladylike take on ’90s-era doctor bag is called the Swing for the jaunty way it moves on your arm and the arc of its metal logo pendant. A perfect modern work bag, both roomy and lightweight, with an authoritative elegance.

INSTANT MESSENGER

The elongated silhouette of our new flap shoulder bag is a sharper, luxe take on the Gen X messenger with a slim leather-and-chain strap. The simple shape showcases the bags’ interesting textures like crinkled patent and embossed snake, while a large square cut-out logo on the front flap reveals vivid contrast colors.

“The Spring/Summer 2023 collection is defined by opposing instincts: to experiment freely and to pare everything back.

Clean lines and an ethereal palette are the understated backdrop for a new focus on material and silhouette The Spring/Summer 2023 . The innovation of luxurious fabrics designed to move with the body — superfine knits, techno satin, weightless jerseys. An exploration of form in wrapped silhouettes, sporty separates and the opposition of sculptural tailoring over translucent layers. All lightened by a touch of strangeness, the shock of handbags in acid colors, and surrealist shoes with trompe l’oeil toe rings and ‘inverted’ heels.

This collection is personal and intuitive, drawing on my memories of the ’90s when I moved to New York. I wanted to look at my signatures with a fresh perspective, reflecting what feels modern now.” — Tory Burch

The Soundtrack Season Spring/Summer 2023 Tory Collection

Composer, DJ and producer Wladimir Schall has created a soundtrack that is as experimental and cool as the outfits from our Spring/Summer 2023 runway show. At first glance, the hypnotic sound of Suite Bergamesque—Isao Tomita’s Claire de Lune synth rendition—before gently disappearing into Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love. Upbeat versions of The Slits, I Heard It Through the Grapevine, and British reggae band UB40’s Don’t Break My Heart got things going. And to end the runway: Tonight, Tonight by the Smashing Pumpkins, an emotionally charged ’90s rock classic, was the perfect farewell.
